Who Is On Your Mean-the-Most List?

Some people picture God as the super-policeman of the universe who keeps his supernatural eye on his human creatures, hoping to catch them doing something wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Over thousands of years, the many authors of the Bible observed God’s acts and attitude towards his children. They concluded that the best overall picture of God is that of a gracious, loving, and, above all else, a super-patient Heavenly Father. His gracious patience may be the main reason billions of people turn to him in times of trouble.

The last time I was hospitalized and feeling low, I got to thinking, “Which people in my life mean the most to me? Which do I want near me when I hurt the most?” The list was pretty short and clear. The people on that high-priority list were not those who give me the most advice, solutions, or cures, but those who, like my sweet wife, give me the most sympathy, compassion, and actually wait patiently by my side while I struggle through the healing process.

Ask yourself this thought-provoking question, “Who would be on my list of those who mean the most to me?” And, here’s another daunting question, “Who will put me on their mean-the-most list?” Remember this encouraging and challenging scripture,

“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus.” Romans 15:5
