Encouragement and FaithPurpose and Faith

Did you read the recent news story about that dog that recently swam 6 miles and walked 12 more to reunite with his master and family? After reading about the tenacity of that ordinary animal, I felt ashamed of my lack of perseverance.

I don’t know about you, but it’s easier for me to be faithful when things go my way and I don’t have to wait long to see results. Perseverance does not come natural for me. I’m impatient about being patient. But God’s Spirit used that story about that amazingly loyal dog to prick my conscience. I suddenly remembered that familiar Bible verse about the way perseverance pays off,

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12

I’ve decided to start today and throughout the today pause and ask the Lord to strengthen my willpower to keep swimming to reach his goals for me when the waters around me get fierce and to keeping walking when the roads before me get rough. Will you join me?
